Greek orthodox saint of love

Love must be the primary motivating factor for each Christian in whatever he or she thinks, says, and does. However, what is meant when we say the word ‘love. Love is probably one of the most misused words in the English language. Take a moment to think of some of the most talented people in the worl the ones you really admire. The English word saint comes from the Latin sanctus.


The word translated in Greek is ἅγιος (hagios), which means holy. The word ἅγιος appears 2times in the Greek New Testament, and its English translation times in the corresponding text of the King James Version of the Bible. All baptised Greeks are named after a saint , and so the name day is celebrated rather than the birthday.


Philoptochos is a Greek word meaning “love for the poor. It has the same Greek root from which the English word philanthropy is derived. According to the Christian faith “the greatest virtue is love” (Cor 13). The Greatest Virtue is Love God is Love.
