Node exporter textfile collector

The Pushgateway should be used for service-level metrics. The textfile module is for metrics that are tied to a machine. Note: Timestamps are not supported. Exporter for machine metrics.

One of the nice features of node _ exporter is the texfiles collector which allows some lesser used things to be monitored without bloating out the node _ exporter binary itself. However there are no scripts with the repo that people could use out of the box or to use as examples or starting points for their own uses. The node exporter is a mix of these, with complexity varying by module. I could not figure out why the query against the metric exposed via node-exporter textfile collector fails. My query in prometheus dashboard is test_metric ! Similarly to the Pushgateway, the textfile collector collects metrics from text files and stores them right into Prometheus.


The Push gateway should be used for service-level metrics. To use it, set the – collector. To atomically push completion time for a cron.

You could add any more metrics you think are useful, such as whether the script succeeded. It allows to measure various machine resources such as memory, disk and CPU utilization.
